Right above the Mediterranean Sea, a glimpse away from the world famous Côte d’Azur, unspoiled and secluded, we have a most attractive winter snow covered mountain territory, a paradise for unforgettable ski and snowshoe treks.
The “Alpes Maritimes” are the home of the Massif du Mercantour, a wide high mountain ridge bathing in the southern winter sun with a most beautifully blue colored sea, right at its feet: in France, we call it “La Grande Bleue”.
Vast is the area we invite you to discover with snowshoes at your feet: it spreads wide from the Verdon, to the ridges overlooking the northern valley of Ubaye, and towards the eastern Italian valleys. It includes the valleys of Le Var, La Tinée, La Vésubie, La Roya but also the various crests and summits of the Pays de Grasse overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
May be you heard or read about it, but never had the thought you could experience it. May be you have already enjoyed a summer or winter trek in our region only to find out you wanted to come back and experience more.
There is good literature, mainly in French, that gives you some good tips to trek by yourself.
But you may not want to take the risk to venture alone in a non familiar environment. The peaceful look of snow covering the mountains can become treacherous, even to the fittest winter trekker.
